This is really neat. Not cool. NEAT!

Would you be interested in learning about a fun and easy way to get healthier! Who wouldn't?!

Some links on this website might be affiliate links. If you purchase through those links, it will not increase your price; it will just throw a few cents back to me for the referral. First, what in the Sam hell is NEAT and why does it matter to you?! Simply put, it’s a really easy way to increase your health. This is how the professionals define it: “Non-exercise activity thermogenesis (NEAT) is the energy expended for everything we do that is not sleeping, eating or sports-like exercise. It ranges from the energy expended walking to work, typing, performing yard work, undertaking agricultural tasks and fidgeting.” Credit Link So, basically, it’s physical activity we do outside of planned exercise. The genius about NEAT is that will help you get healthier without really trying! All you’ve got to do is to move more. Move more… I know. We hear it all of the time. They even say that sitting is the new smoking. Who knows. BUT I do know that I sit a LOT; and I want to make up for all of that sitting in a way that I don’t despise… (planned exercise).

I, personally, need to be reminded to get off my butt and move. So, I will set a timer for every hour and get up and do something for 5-10 minutes.

I’m even thinking about making bracelets that signify either a 10 minute segment of movement, or a 5 minute segment that I can put on after I’ve completed one. Maybe it’s a little over the top, but I need that reminder and motivation. (If I do that, I’ll post pictures!) Here’s a list of fun and/or easy ways to fit more NEAT into your day:

  1. Walk around the inside of your house.

  2. Take your dog for a quick walk.

  3. Walk around the inside of your house while reading (not as hard as it sounds!)

  4. Stretch, or if you’re really fancy, do dedicated yoga moves.

  5. Body weight exercises like squats, push-ups, planks, lunges, etc. (I know, those are horrid; but it’s only for 5 or 10 minutes!)

  6. Do toe raises while doing the dishes and/or cooking.

  7. Put on slick socks and “skate” around your house.

  8. Dance, Dance, Dance! (Have you ever seen Misty Tripoli’s Body Groove?! It’s AWESOME!)

  9. Bounce a ball in your house. It’s okay to do this – you’re a grown up now!

  10. Anything and everything else that will get you up off your booty and moving!

There ya have it! Doing NEAT is a simple, easy way to make sure you are doing all that you can to keep your health. Here’s a quick, 5 minute, video with Misty doing her Body Groove. It is so awesome, uplifting, fun, empowering… What can I say? Misty is great. If you do this video, you’ll see how easy and fun this whole NEAT thing can be!
