The Birth of an Idea

Updated: Apr 27, 2022

The creative process is something we all go through. Whether we are writing a book, creating a business, starting a new adventure... the process we go through to create this new thing in our lives is probably about as different as our DNA and yet as similar as drawing a breath.

The creative process is messy, scary, confusing, liberating, exciting, life-giving and more! I thought that if I share what I go through in this process, it might help somebody else not feel as crazy as I do... because it always works out. Always.

This blog post will focus on the birth of the idea.

I was sitting at my desk one day, looking out the window. I was kinda bored, but feeling content with my life and the down time I was enjoying. It was right after Christmas, so not having much to do was a really good feeling.

Then, it was like a small idea started rumbling in my brain. I perked up and focused on that feeling. I could feel the idea forming until it's as if the idea grew from the size of a pinhole to a full out party with confetti and screams of excitement! I knew what I was going to do next - what my focus was going to be - it's a new book. But the birthing of the idea didn't stop there.

I nodded my head, knowing this is something I can totally do. And it was like as soon as I agreed upon one thing with the project, another part of the idea came to my head. This happened over and over until I not only knew I was going to write a book, but that it would be a HUGE deal, I would do proper promotion for the book, and it is going to be a book that remains a go-to reference for people for decades to come.

For the rest of that day, I sat and did some simple outlining of what the book could hold. The excitement grew on so many different levels!

But then the "oh shit'" started to sink in.

* Oh shit - how am I going to do this?

* Oh shit - what if I mess this up?

* Oh shit - this is SO much work.

* Oh shit - this is SO much pressure.

* Oh shit - I don't know what I'm doing!

In the next installment of the creative process, I'll share how I got through these "Oh shit's". ;)
